Archtober stands as a year-round celebration of architecture and design, fostering a deep connection between communities and the built environment. Established in 2010 as an annual month-long festival, this platform has evolved into a resource for happenings in NYC. Collaborating with an extensive network of partners, Archtober presents an array of events that include tours, lectures, workshops, panels, and exhibitions.
As we entered our 5th year of partnering with Archtober, we are always thinking about how we can expand the Festival theme past the confines of just the website. And a large-scale wall wrap installation at the Center for Architecture's building that lines the entry way, is just one way we approached it this year. The challenge lay in translating the 2024 theme, 'Tracing the Future' into such a larger than life installation.
Our goal was to keep the tactile and intimate nature of the sketchbook-like drawings even at this large format size. We landed on the idea of a collage of layered from tracing paper, pinned up to the wall, reminiscent of a architects workspace. Making use of our custom illustrations crafted for this year's theme, the sheets stack upon eachother, in various forms of completion, reflecting a vision of New York City’s imagined future. The layered, translucent effect not only captures the iterative nature of the architectural practice but also the idea of ever-changing city we all call home.
Working with Greater for the past five years has changed how we think about collaboration. Alex and Jon have repeatedly gone above and beyond to help shape how we think about our own work and what Archtober can achieve, helping us expand and improve not only our outputs but our internal workflows and processes.
